Anxiety: a system trying to keep you safe.

Wired, on edge, braced for something that hasn't happened yet. That's the FEAR system doing its job: scanning ahead so nothing catches you off guard. The trouble is it can't tell a real threat from an imagined one, so the alarm keeps running. This check looks at one anxious moment and shows which level the alarm is firing from, because that's what decides which kind of help will actually work.

Sound familiar?

Anxiety wears different coats depending on the level it's running from. Any of these count:

Your stomach drops or your chest tightens before you've even worked out why
A specific tone, person, place, or time of day reliably sets you off
What-if chains that run ahead into next week and won't switch off
Checking, re-checking, over-preparing, or avoiding altogether
Lying awake rehearsing conversations that haven't happened
Logic helps for a moment, then the worry finds a new angle

What the check tells you

Six short questions about one specific moment. The check won't score your mental health or label you; it shows whether this anxiety is body-first, trigger-linked, or mind-led, why that makes sense, and one practical next step matched to the level.

The three levels, in short: Level 1 is the body, a fast alarm that fires before thought and settles through the body, not logic. Level 2 is the trigger, an old cue wired to the alarm, which settles by being spotted and gently updated. Level 3 is the story, meaning, prediction, and rehearsal, which settles by working with the thinking itself. Anxiety is the one feeling that shows up fluently at all three, which is why the same breathing exercise can be a lifesaver one day and useless the next.
