Panic & grief: the ache of separation.

An ache of loss, a rupture, the empty-house feeling, being left out or left behind. The PANIC/GRIEF system is the oldest social alarm we have; it hurts in the body because it's designed to make us seek our people. It doesn't respond to logic or evidence, only to being met. This check looks at one aching moment and shows which level the pull is coming from, and the kind of care that fits it.

Sound familiar?

This system speaks in ache rather than alarm. Any of these count:

A heavy, hollow feeling in the chest, close to tears without warning
Certain songs, dates, places, or times of day reliably open it up
Reaching for your phone to text someone who isn't there anymore
Feeling cut off, left out, or suddenly very alone in a full room
Replaying what was lost, or what you'd say if you could
Comfort helps, but you can't seem to let it in for long

What the check tells you

Six short questions about one moment of loss or separation. You'll see whether the ache is body-first, cue-linked, or story-led, why the pull works the way it does, and the kind of care that actually meets it, because grief completes by being met, not argued with.

The three levels, in short: Level 1 is the body, a fast alarm that fires before thought and settles through the body, not logic. Level 2 is the trigger, an old cue wired to the alarm, which settles by being spotted and gently updated. Level 3 is the story, meaning, prediction, and rehearsal, which settles by working with the thinking itself. Grief is the clearest example of a feeling that cannot be fixed at level 3 when it's living at level 1.
